The meander and other symbols of infinity

Abstract
Ideas about the meander come from the River Meander, which, defying expectations of geometric perfection, undulates and waves across its valley, creating fertile soil, destroying, and reforming ever changing shorelines. Rather than tame it, the interlocking elements of earth and water became an enduring symbol of unity, infinity, and continuance which resonates in art history across cultures and through time. This talk will survey the meander and other symbols of unity and infinity in art and architecture.
