In today’s fast-paced world, staying connected and informed is more crucial than ever. The WISE community is no exception.
As the global recognition of the impact of ocean surface waves on the Earth System grows, so does the influx of research aimed at connecting the dots and advancing theories, alongside practical observational and experimental studies to enhance forecast accuracy and climate models.
The WISE community has played a pivotal role in spearheading and steering these research endeavours, ensuring the quality of the science and leading the way for future initiatives. Across the community, a multitude of theoretical, observational, experimental, and modelling studies have been and are currently presented, yielding fresh insights.
Moreover, an increasing array of research tools, including codes and algorithms for interpreting new observational data, as well as novel wave model integrations within the Earth system models, are being openly shared. This surge in resources is fueling not only a growing interest in wave studies but, crucially, the expansion of our interconnected community, forging a global network of cutting-edge approaches and tools.
Both WISE’s in-person meetings and Zoominars have played key roles in facilitating this knowledge exchange. However, given these many contributions, we believe that the community would hugely benefit from a common place of constant discussion and interaction.
As such, we propose the creation of a repository of knowledge. An agora of discussion, echoing the collaborative spirit of ancient Greek philosophy and science. Here, every member of the community can swiftly access valuable tools and initiate discussions vital to the advancement of our field.
Acknowledging the competitive nature of our discipline, we understand the hesitancy surrounding information sharing. However, we firmly believe that a platform for open discussion can immensely benefit not only the community as a whole but also each individual researcher, fostering growth within local communities as well as fruitful international collaborations.
